EN 10132-2:2021

Surface finish can be “rough” (RR), “matte” (RM), “smooth” (RL).

Products with MA and MB surface appearance are generally supplied with RL surface finish. If “rough” or “matte” surface finish is requested, the corresponding symbol must be indicated in the designation. 

  • Roughness requirements must be agreed upon at the time of request for quotation or order.
  • Cold-rolled strip should have a final bright surface finish, as obtained during rolling or annealing in a controlled atmosphere.

ANNEALED STRIP: HIGH CARBON STEEL

MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ANNEALED STEEL STRIPS

At VINCO we offer you a wide selection of annealed steel strips with high carbon content so that you can adapt the order to your needs. The annealing process consists of heating the steel strip to a certain temperature and allowing it to cool to room temperature in order to soften the material and eliminate tensions. In addition, depending on the amount of carbon in the steel strip, the mechanical properties and characteristics will vary. The higher the carbon content, the higher the hardness and strength of the strip. The density of high carbon steel strip is 7.85 kg/dm³ regardless of the format in which the product is supplied.

The mechanical characteristics and technical conditions of annealed strip are subject to EN 10132-2 (case hardening steel), EN 10132-3 (quenching and tempering steel) and EN 10132-4 (technical delivery conditions), which apply to cold-rolled strip for heat treatment. In this respect, the mechanical properties and hardness requirements as well as the Rockwell hardness values of spring steels are determined. These characteristics are applied to the supply of annealed and skin-passed strip: the former softens and relieves the stresses of the steel, improving its ductility, and the skin-passed reduces the thickness and improves the roughness of the strip. The finishing of annealed strip is governed by EN 10132-2:2000 which covers alloyed and non-alloyed cold rolled strip for general applications. The cold rolling process leaves a bright surface finish on the material. The roughness, on the other hand, is agreed at the time of the order, adapting each strip to the needs of our customers.

TOLERANCES IN THICKNESS, WIDTH, LENGTH AND DEFLECTION

Thickness tolerances according to Standard EN 10140:2006 that applies to cold rolled strip in coils or strips obtained from precision strip of rolling width.

Width tolerances are indicated for strips with sheared edges. The standard shear tolerances for VINCO and the tolerances for nominal widths according to EN 10140 are listed here.

With regard to the length tolerances, three nominal length bands are detailed for which the most restricted tolerances that can be closed in commercial agreement are indicated, as well as the positive tolerances with respect to the nominal length detailed in the EN 10140 Standard.

Deflection tolerances refer to the most restricted edge bending tolerances feasible under commercial agreement, as well as to the tolerances according to EN 10140 for Class A (Normal) and Class B (Reduced).

The range of tolerances with respect to the longitudinal corrugation or flatness of strip strips in the rolling direction shall be less than or equal to a maximum of 10 mm out of 1000. This flatness is determined according to the rolling direction of the strip.
